Road Trip - Baja

This is about the beginning of my road trip down Baja.  There were 3 main stops and many sights to see.  The drive itself, to me, was an experience.  (You know me people, I can make a trip to the grocery store an experience!  Remember Snow, A Tire and Some Apples?)
My first trip through the Mexican border, my first sight of Tijuana, we drove straight through.  This was years ago, the state of the border was not as it is now, no worries!  So throw that out of your mind, so you can enjoy this trip.
I was particularly mesmerized by the border wall, it was huge.  I couldn't take my eyes off of it.  It was big, tall, almost solid, but it was slatted.  As we drove beside it, I could see sliver like glimpses of the other side picketing by like the spokes of a wheel.  The wall kind of escorted us for a ways.  It ran through the countryside and finally down into the ocean.  I was glad when it was gone so I could focus on the ocean.  But in my mind, I had many questions, a little awe but mostly that I was seeing a piece of the world I had only heard about.  I was imagining what activities went on along that wall while no one was driving by.  I should have seen more of the world by now, it all interests me.  I love the differences in all the cultures of the world, I respect them.  And I want to know more, to see more.  I want to experience it, all of it.  I wish I would have known when I was young that this desire would become so strong in me.  I would have started sooner and prepared my own way.  It's a big world and my dent in it is less than microscopic.
As we continued on, we were just vehicle strolling down the ocean side.  I closed my eyes, (i wasn't driving!) and in my mind I did a quick aerial view of where I was.  I was on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.  One third of the world.  I had been on Pacific beaches before, but being where I was seemed farther west than I had been before.  It wasn't but it felt like it, maybe because I was away from cities and tall buildings.  At this location there weren't a lot of people around.  I was on the edge of the largest body of water on the earth.  Straight west, the other side of the world, first land, probably the Cook Islands.  Straight south the first land would be Antarctica, south and west would be South America and Galapagos.  Open your eyes!  Open your google earth, click on Baja and move it far to the right, as you do this the ocean takes over almost the whole google earth.  Amazing.
Looking east the country Mexico.  The little villages along the way were nothing more than shanty speed bumps.   My senses were heightened, the sights, sounds, smells, and yes even tastes.  Farther down we stopped and visited Rosarito Beach and Hotel, Calafia and Puerto Nuevo.  All 3 have great things about them and I will hit them in future Moody's!  I have pictures I hope to add.  Rosarito, the long pier and amazing sunset.  Calafia, the old mission and the outdoor restaurant overlooking the ocean waves crashing against the cliffs below.  Puerto Nuevo, I am not sure of the pics, but I was told there that I was no good at bargaining!  I wish I could type in a Mexican accent, it was priceless!
Be happy people!
May God Bless You Greatly!!!
